On November 15th, 2016 our Shelter to Soldier™ service dog training team visited the San Diego Department of Animal Services on Gaines St. in San Diego. There, we met many great dogs – but fell madly in love with this sweet puppy, affectionately named Thursday by her Red Star Sponsor, The Thursday Club Juniors. Thursday is an energetic, happy little girl with a strong drive to work. She is sweet, kind, and incredibly goofy, and has learned quickly in our program. She is our youngest adoption to-date, but we were so confident in her behavior and potential that we made an exception to our general age guideline of 6 months to 2.5 year of age at the time of adoption, and we are so glad we did! Thursday will make a great service dog companion for a future veteran recipient. In April 2016, The Thursday Club Juniors held their annual gala, and chose to honor veterans and our program. They raised over $88,000 with their event, and we are thrilled to have Thursday join our program under their sponsorship.

After moving through our program like a rock star for some time, Thursday unfortunately suffered a leg injury that created a minor, temporary setback in her training. After recovering, we began to notice that Thursday would make a better Emotional Support Dog (ESD) than she would a psychiatric service dog. Our training team made the decision to place her as an Emotional Support Dog with Navy veteran, Dave, and the pair of them are living a very exciting life full of adventure. We are so proud of this team!
