The Shelter to Soldier team adopted Stella under the generous Red Star Sponsorship of the Tea3 Foundation. Stella was brought to us by her previous owner who felt she needed a job and stumbled across our organization. After evaluating Stella on May 2nd, 2023, we immediately fell in love with her enthusiasm, eagerness to train, and sweet personality.

USMC Veteran Antonio discovered our program through the Wounded Warrior Project. Throughout his service, he encountered some of the most selfless individuals and formed bonds that remained unmatched since his retirement. However, his experiences left deep, enduring scars on his mind. Any sudden sound, smell, or change in the environment could trigger memories of those harrowing moments, causing him immense distress.

Despite extensive therapy, which significantly improved his family life, Antonio realized he needed a constant companion to bolster his mental strength and keep him calm during his most anxious times. During the matching process, Antonio instantly connected with Stella, whose spunky demeanor and affectionate nature made it clear she was the perfect match for him.

Together, Antonio and Stella excelled in the training program, impressing everyone at Shelter to Soldier, especially considering it was Antonio’s first experience handling a dog. Stella’s eagerness to learn and be by Antonio’s side was evident, and their bond only grew stronger.

Since living at home, Antonio has shared that Stella is like his shadow, never leaving his side and alleviating his PTS symptoms. She has brought a new light into his life, joining him, his wife, and their two children on many adventures.

We are thrilled to announce that Antonio and Stella celebrated their journey together on August 2, 2024 with his wife and 2 beautiful children.
