The Shelter to Soldier team adopted Palmer from Labs & More under the generous Red Star Sponsorship of Melanie Mayer! As soon as the training team met Palmer, we instantly knew he’d be a great candidate for our program with his tall build, puppy-like playfulness, and love for cuddles.
US Navy Veteran Trevor discovered Shelter to Soldier through a mental health clinic in San Diego. Unfortunately, during his service, Trevor experienced depression and anxiety, leading to feelings of isolation. He was in search of a dog that could provide comfort, companionship, and a sense of security.
When Trevor visited our Wings of Freedom training campus, he expressed a desire for a dog that could be both playful and calming, a companion who could help ground him during tough moments. His trainer, Shelby, introduced him to Palmer, saving him for last. Upon returning to the yard, Shelby found Trevor and Palmer cuddling on the grass, a clear sign that Trevor had found his perfect match. Even our kennel manager, Lauree, sensed that this pairing was meant to be.
Trevor and Palmer excelled throughout the program and proudly celebrated their graduation on August 24th, 2024.
