The Shelter to Soldier team welcomed Libby into our program through the generous Red Star Sponsorship of Karen & Jeff Shabel and our rescue partners at Labs & More.
Tom first heard about us through the Big FM radio program and was inspired to apply after learning about the impact we have on homeless dogs and our veteran community. Tom, a US Army veteran, served from 1989 to 1996 during Desert Shield and Desert Storm, working with forward combat units in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
After his service, Tom rescued a dog who became a loyal source of comfort during times of emotional distress. Sadly, his beloved companion eventually fell ill and crossed the rainbow bridge. Knowing he couldn’t be without the companionship and support of a dog, Tom turned to us and, through our “speed dating” process, he found Libby.
Libby was almost an instant match, mirroring Tom’s energy and bringing humor and joy into his life. In just seven months, the team passed their Public Access Test and is set to graduate on July 29th. Today, Tom and Libby are inseparable. From the comedy shows where Tom performs to the soccer games he coaches. It was clear from the start that these two were meant to be, and we can’t wait to see how they continue to grow together.
