Mama

Mama’s journey to Shelter to Soldier is one of resilience, love, and second chances.

She was found as a stray in a Good Samaritan’s front yard with her eight puppies by her side. All nine were brought to the San Bernardino shelter, where Mama developed kennel cough, and her puppies began struggling to thrive in the harsh shelter environment. Sadly, the entire family was scheduled for euthanasia.

Determined to save them, Bubbles Dog Rescue in Los Angeles and rescue advocate Mary Bonnet partnered to bring Mama and her babies to safety. Their journey was not without heartbreak. The puppies later developed parvo and distemper, and only three survived. Through it all, Mama remained devoted to her babies, nursing and caring for them until they were ready to be weaned. Thankfully, each of the surviving puppies went on to find a loving home.

Mama’s own second chance came when Mary discovered us on Instagram and recognized the potential for Mama to begin a new chapter. Mary brought her to us for an evaluation, where Mama quickly began showing us just how special she is.

Mama is currently in her initial 30-day extended evaluation period and has done wonderfully with everything we have assessed so far. Her resilience, nurturing spirit, and ability to adapt continue to shine as she takes the first steps toward a possible future as a psychiatric service dog.

After overcoming so much and giving everything she could to care for her puppies, Mama now has the opportunity to receive the same love and support she has always given to others. We are honored to be part of her journey and cannot wait to see what her future holds.
